Burton Albion will face a Huddersfield Town side missing their most in-form forward when the teams meet next month. The Brewers' opponents will be without 23-year-old striker Joe Taylor for the October 3 fixture after he received a first senior call-up to the Wales national team.
Wales manager Craig Bellamy confirmed the late addition to his squad. "Taylor did not make the initial Wales squad for upcoming Nations League fixtures but has been drafted in following the withdrawal of Wrexham’s Nathan Broadhead," Bellamy said. Taylor, who joined Huddersfield from Luton Town in January 2025, has scored five League One goals this season.
His absence removes a significant attacking threat for a Burton side looking to build on a mixed start. Martin Drury's Huddersfield will travel to the Pirelli Stadium for the Friday night fixture, but they are expected to welcome back defender Radinio Balker from international duty in time for the match.
For Burton, the news comes as they prepare for a tough away trip to third-placed Plymouth this weekend. The Brewers currently sit 12th in League One, having taken nine points from their opening seven matches. Their recent form shows one win, three draws and one defeat from the last five outings.
The latest standings also show Burton are six points behind early leaders Bradford City.
The international break sees Wales face Portugal on September 24 and Denmark three days later, before a final fixture on September 28. Taylor's call-up means he will join the squad immediately after Huddersfield's match this weekend, ruling him out of club duty the following Friday. Burton's next home game is against Huddersfield Town on October 3.
