Burton Albion have completed three signings this week to strengthen their squad for the League One campaign. The Brewers sit fourth in the table with seven points from four games, just three points behind leaders Huddersfield Town. Burton have signed winger Caylan Vickers from Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old has agreed a two-year contract at the Pirelli Stadium, with an option for a further 12 months. Vickers has League One experience from loan spells at Barnsley and Wigan Athletic last season.
The club also completed a season-long loan deal for Brighton forward Mark O'Mahony. The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland youth international scored three goals in 13 games for Portsmouth during a loan spell in 2024. Head coach Gary Bowyer told reporters that O'Mahony adds another attacking option to the squad.
Burton's official website announced the signing of defender Joe Lewis on a one-year deal. The 26-year-old Welshman arrives as a free agent after leaving AFC Wimbledon this summer. Lewis made 32 appearances for the Dons last season and brings significant third-tier experience.
Sporting Director Richard Dorman said Lewis's excellent physicality means he can come in and contribute immediately. The defender developed through the Swansea City academy and has made over 100 appearances in the Football League.
Burton produced a strong comeback to beat AFC Wimbledon 4-1 at the Pirelli Stadium. Jayden Stockley gave Wimbledon an 18th-minute lead, but George Evans equalised with a free-kick. An Alistair Smith own goal put Albion ahead before half-time.
Charlie Webster extended the lead just 18 seconds into the second half. Deadline-day signing Caylan Vickers then capped an impressive debut by sliding in to convert a cross from Sulyman Krubally after 76 minutes. The victory contributed to Burton's current goal difference of +3, having scored eight and conceded five this season.
The Brewers' early season form reads WLWD, placing them firmly in the early promotion conversation. Their next test is a home fixture against Cambridge United on September 5th. Cambridge currently sit sixth, making it a key early-season encounter at the top of the table.
The club also confirmed the departure of Tomas Kalinauskas after a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. Burton Albion host Cambridge United this Saturday.
