Burton Albion defender Alex Hartridge has joined Plymouth Argyle, bringing his long-throw expertise to League One. The 27-year-old, who played for Burton last season, scored 4-5 goals from throws and believes they can be a valuable attacking weapon for his new team. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 18th in League One, 52 pts, 13W-13D-18L from 44 games, recent form DWDDL.
Hartridge's long throws can build pressure and create scoring opportunities. He admits that while they can be effective, they need practice to be more effective. He also mentioned that he threw too many into the goalkeeper's hands during a pre-season match against Bristol City.
Hartridge has played in central defence and at left-back during pre-season. He feels comfortable in both positions and believes he can bring energy to the team. After the transfer of Alex Mitchell, it looks likely that Hartridge will be used at left-back in Tom Cleverley's favoured 4-4-2 formation.
Plymouth Argyle fell short of a League One play-off place last term by just two points. Hartridge believes the team is peaking at the right time and is ready for the new season. The goalless draw against Bristol City offered plenty of encouraging signs for the season ahead.
